A lot of people probably stereotype people from Texas as being rednecks. Many people aren't where I'm from, but I can't disagree with the fact that I've seen a lot of them. Even I have done redneck sorts of things, like buying and fixing my own lawn mower and mowing 5 lawns a week in the hot, humid summers. More importantly though, I have gone on tons of family vacations growing up, and excluding emergency stops due to a broken car, we have never slept in a hotel while traveling.
I have some fantastic memories of going on family vacations with my Mom: we were able to visit wherever we wanted to in the United States, typically always the western United States due to lots of State and national parks, at crazy low prices! This is because we slept in our van. We've had out van for a long long time. I've ridden in it since I was.. honestly, I don't even know when. I hardly remember us buying it. When I got a license, I started driving that same van around town. It has dents from bumping into a guardrail in Montana, and has been clear to the Grand Canyon countless times.
Our family vacations are very open-ended on what we'll do each day. Since we sleep wherever we can whenever we want to and leave home without an exact plan on where we'll be going, we often debated while on the road where we should stop next. Often, we would stop at attractions as they came up on the road. Because of this, I have lots of memories of seeing rest stops, hearing cars driving on the highway, looking over viewing areas, I've seen a ton of nature's beauty with my family. Although I don't know how well a family vacation would go if we were actually to go on another one today, I very often feel nostalgic about all of the awesome adventures I've been on with my family, especially when I see a place we've been to before in passing, like particular hiking trails near BYU for example. Overall, I'm very glad my Mom made the effort bring us on wild vacations, they're memories that I'll never forget.
